In a desperate way to win a media at the ongoing Olympics in Rio, Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas dived at the finish line to win the women’s 400 meters at the Rio Olympics on Monday night, defeating Allyson Felix of the United States.
Miller who ran on Lane 7, began to dive toward the finish line during the race after she saw that USA Felix was closing fast on the inside which would have automatically gave Felix the women’s 400 meters gold medal.
The 22-year-old on seeing this, torso crossed first, as required by the rules, to win the gold medal in 49.44 seconds, her personal best record.
Though she crossed the finish line by diving, Miller remained on the track on her back until she was declared the winner.
Meanwhile, Felix who was hoping to become the first woman to win five Olympic gold medals in track and field, took second in 49.51.
However, the result was disappointing for Felix, who had hoped to win gold medals at 200 and 400 meters.
Furthermore, Felix did not qualify for the Olympic 200, but she still has a chance to win a gold medal in the 4×400 relay, which is scheduled to begin Friday.
